Älskade katt

Den 2 maj 1993 födde katten Kajsa tre små ungar. En dog snabbt. Man misstänkte inavel och att grannkatten, Elvis, både var Kajsas pappa och far till hennes ungar. Nummer två, Sillen, dog också efter ett tag.

Kvar blev nummer tre. Den enda svarta katten i kullen. Killen. Mamma bestämde att han skulle heta Sebastian. Jag fick panik. Sebastian, liksom! Varpå mamma säger ”jaha, men kom på nåt annat då, nu direkt!”. Det blev Kurris. Och killen var en tjej. Tur att det inte blev Sebastian.

Hon var aldrig en ligga-i-knät-katt. I början låg hon dock i mitt knä. Men på hennes egna knäppa sätt. Varje dag när jag kom hem från skolan tog jag en filt i knät (att dra in klorna var inte Kurris bästa gren). Ovanpå den la jag Kurris. Upp och ned. Enda sättet att få henne att ligga i knät.

Redan tidigt lärde hon sig några ord. Favoriten var ost. Favoritordet alltså, inte favoritgodiset. Det blev nämligen så att ”ost” betydde ”godis”. Don’t ask me why.

Första julen – 1993 – var jag och Kristoffer i Australien. Hemma var mamma och den halvårsgamla katten. En natt vaknar mamma av att Kurris är i sängen (det var inte heller Kurris grej). Uppenbarligen har något hänt och mamma följer efter katten till vardagsrummet. Och där ligger granen i ett hav av vatten, barr och trasiga kulor. Kuris hade lekt lite väl våldsamt …

Samma jul följde Kurris med hem till mormor och morfar på julafton. Morfar var sjuk och kunde inte gå ut och självklart kunde inte Kurris vara ensam hemma på julafton. Mormor som alltid hatat katter, men som snabbt blev Kurris favorit eftersom alltid såg till att mata katten med ren, lamm och älg samtidigt som hon sa ”det är från mormor!”. Men den där första julen: hemma hos mormor sprang hon först in i eldstaden för att sedan – med sina sotiga tassar – springa rakt upp i den rosa soffan. Mormor pratar fortfarande om denna händelse med skräckblandad förtjusning.

Igår fick vi säga adjö till Kurris. Exakt 16 år och 7 månader senare. Det var fullständigt ohyggligt vidrigt. Vi har varit hennes människor i större delen av mitt liv. Ja, Kurris var verkligen inte vår katt, vi var hennes människor.
