Bröllopsresa del 4: New York

Dags för ytterligare en vecka i New York. Men först ytterligare en lång resdag. På grund av tidsskillnaden lämnade vi Las Vegas tidigt på morgonen, och kom fram till hotellet i New York sent på kvällen.

Vi bodde på ett annat hotell den här gången, i en annan del av staden. Från Chelsea till Meatpacking (inte så långt ifrån varandra). Nya hotellet, Gansevoort Meatpacking, välkomnade storstilat med äkta champagne och Mr- & Mrs-örngott. Fint!

Eftersom Las Vegas och Island var resans mest intensiva delar, ville vi ta det lugnt och ha ”vardag” i New York och den här omgången ville vi ta det ännu lugnare. Dagen inleddes med tvätt (som sagt, allt är inte glamouröst och under en månadslång resa behövs det tvättas) och sedan vandrade vi på High Line, parken som New York anlagt på ett gammalt järnvägsspår uppe i luften.

”Alla” shoppar ju i New York, och på något sätt tyckte vi att vi också skulle göra det. Så vi åkte till Century 21 (och hörde svenska i varje vrå!). Men shopping är inte vår grej. Och definitivt inte märkesshopping. Visst, det är 50% på den där Armaniklänningen, men det är fortfarande en svindyr Armaniklänning liksom. Men en julklapp blev det. Vi fortsatte ned mot vattnet för att besöka en av mina favoritplatser, Pier 17. Men det var rivet! Så många timmar jag varit där, och så var det bara borta. Kändes lite sorgligt. Men huset jag bodde i fanns kvar i alla fall: The Renaissance Building @ 100 John Street.

Nästa dag blev tunnelbanans dag. Tre stopp krävde elva tunnelbaneresor! Byten mellan linjer, men också stopp i trafiken som krävde omvägar och sånt. Vi var i alla fall på en butik Johan ville kika i, åt lunch på Sarge’s, som ska ha en av de bästa pastramimackorna i New York (jag åt annat, men pastramimackor i New York är en av Johans absoluta favoriter) och besökte Rockefeller och Top of the Rock. Tredje gången jag var uppe i Top of the Rock, men New Yorks utsikt ser jag gärna om och om igen.

Efter en härlig brunch och ett Skypesamtal med världens gladaste brorsdotter (det är ju galet lätt att smälta när hela hon vibrerar av glädje när hon får syn på oss) åkte vi mot Brooklyn, men den här gången bara för att ta oss tillbaka till Manhattan igen. Dags att återvända till platsen vi förlovade oss på 2008: Brooklyn Bridge, den här gången även med vigselringar. När vi ändå var i området (jaja, allt är relativt på Manhattan) åkte vi över till Staten Island också, ett varv med Staten Island Ferry ger en härlig utsikt över nedre Manhattan.

Nästa dag började med bio, vi såg nya Hunger Games-filmen. När vi kom ut från biografen var det strålande sol och 21 grader. Mot hotellets takterrass och pool! Det blev aldrig något ordentligt bad, men några timmar i solen och med benen i vattnet. På kvällen var det dags för Rock of Ages på Broadway. Jag älskar musiken i den, även om storyn i musikalen är otroligt dålig (mycket sämre än filmen) så borde den vara väldigt maffig på Broadway, tänkte vi. Eh, nej. Det var kul att gå på Broadway, men det var faktiskt rent ut sagt dåligt. Den svenska uppsättningen var mycket bättre.

Mer bio! Även nästa dag blev det bio. Den här gången såg vi The Birdman. På kvällen åkte vi till Union Square och fastnade i en demonstration angående Ferguson. Även sista dagen gick vi på bio, och såg John Wick. Fem biobesök totalt alltså! Skönt att göra något innan flyget gick så dagen inte bara gick till resande, och bio kändes lagom lugnt. Tyvärr ösregnade det (resans enda regndag!), annars hade vi gärna kikat på julmarknaden vid Union Square också.
