Våren 2002 jobbade jag på Isaac Mizrahi Show i New York. En dag var Rufus Wainwright
gäst. Jag hade aldrig hört talas om honom, men fastnade för låten han spelade i slutet av inslaget (se youtubeklipp längre ned). När jag slutade på Isaac Mizrahi fick jag bland annat 100 dollar (då 1 141 kr) på Virgin Megastore och en av skivorna jag köpte var Rufus’s ”Poses”. Jag gillade den skivan, men större blev aldrig mitt Rufusintresse.

Åren gick och förra lördagen såg jag en affisch på stan; Rufus Wainwright skulle spela i Stockholm. Pratade med mamma och köpte biljetter, alltid kul att göra något tillsammans.

Första delen av konserten var extremt pretentiös och faktiskt fånig. En kvinna kom in på scenen och förklarade att Rufus kommer spela ett gäng låtar i en cykel först, och att man absolut intre fick applådera. Och när han var klar fick man inte heller applådera, eftersom hans ”sorti är en del av föreställningen”. In träder Rufus, iklädd en extremt dramatisk svart klänning. På en stor duk projiceras stirrande ögon. Och jag sitter bara med tvångstankar om att applådera vilt.

Efter pausen blev det dock annorlunda. Rufus kommer ut i vanliga kläder, är glad och fnittrig. Första halvan var faktiskt hemsk, men andra halvan vägde upp det. Han spelade bara tre låtar jag hört tidigare, men ändå var det magi.
